Dune has maintained popularity throughout the decades thanks to its deep lore and interplanetary drama. At the heart of all this is the story’s protagonist, the young royal Paul Atreides, who becomes the key player in the battle for control over the hostile desert planet Arrakis, the only known source of a mind-altering spice that has become vital to the survival of humanity.

Courtesy of Vanity Fair, the first official image of the new movie from director Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Blade Runner 2049) depicts Paul, played by actor Timothée Chalamet, on his native planet of Caladan, contemplating an uncertain future while transport ships in the background arrive to take his family to their new home on Arrakis.
Additionally, the official Dune Twitter page unveiled the movie’s official logo.
Given its late December release date, Dune is one of the few movies that haven’t been delayed due to the coronavirus situation, and with any luck it won’t be. In the meantime, though, Vanity Fair will have more to reveal about the movie tomorrow.
Dune is slated to premiere in theaters on December 18.
